Directors and Officers Liability
Directors and Officers Liability (D&O)
Under current legislation a Director or Officer of a company can be held personally liable for their actions. Although your company has limited liability an individual has unlimited personal liability. All your personal assets are at risk, everything you have ever worked for in the past, your home, savings, investments and car could all be taken away from you because of a seemingly small error of judgement.
Cover is available to protect Directors and Officers, including their personal property, and the company against claims from other parties such as shareholders, financial institutions, clients, suppliers and employees alleging wrongful acts or failure to carry out their duties.
Ultimately, the cover helps protect the individual and the long-term stability of the Company against the high cost of litigation.
Employment Practices Liability (EPL)
Is designed to protect the Company, Employees and Directors against a loss arising from an employment claim including defence costs.
As more rights are extended to employees, and their awareness of these rights becomes more acute, the number of claims for breach of proper employment practices has increased dramatically. EPL claims can come in many guises from discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation through to harassment and injury to the feelings of an employee.
